Alan Salter founded Caravel International Partners to help organizations close the space between knowing what needs to change and having the capacity, structure, and leadership to make it happen.
He brings more than 30 years of experience across procurement, supply chain, operations, program leadership, and enterprise transformation—from service as a U.S. Navy Supply Officer and operating roles inside major organizations to life-sciences leadership and independent advisory work.
Every Caravel engagement is led directly by Alan. The person helping diagnose the problem, shape the recommendation, and align leadership is the same person working alongside the team to move it forward.
Organizations rarely struggle because they lack ideas. More often, important work slows because priorities compete, accountability becomes fragmented, internal capacity is constrained, or the path from strategy to execution has not been made clear.
Caravel was created for that space.
Whether the need begins with executive strategy, organizational transformation, supplier performance, or an operating challenge, Alan helps leaders establish the fact base, identify what is truly preventing progress, build a defensible path forward, and stay close enough to execution to make the change stick.
Caravel is deliberately senior-led. There is no handoff from the person who earns the work to a junior delivery team. Clients receive Alan’s direct involvement throughout the engagement.

In his conversation with Alan Salter, Alan discusses ownership, accountability, servant leadership, ethical decision-making, and the importance of defining what “good” looks like before beginning the work. He also reflects on how a career spanning military service, corporate leadership, life sciences, consulting, and nonprofit service has shaped his approach.

From serving as a U.S. Navy Supply Officer to guiding complex corporate transformations, Alan Salter has spent over three decades helping organizations thrive. Now through Caravel International Partners, he helps leaders bridge the gap between strategy and execution—empowering teams, solving complex operational challenges, and leaving every organization better than he found it.

Not every conversation needs to become an engagement. A short discussion is enough to understand the situation, test the fit, and determine whether Caravel can add meaningful value.

Yes. Caravel is intentionally senior-led, and Alan remains directly involved from the initial diagnostic through the agreed delivery scope. Clients are not transitioned to a junior team after the engagement begins.
No. Procurement and supplier leadership are important parts of Alan’s experience, but Caravel’s work spans Executive Strategy, Transformation Advisory, Supplier Leadership, and Operations & Execution. Engagements frequently connect several of these capabilities.
Caravel works under appropriate confidentiality agreements, uses client systems where practical, limits information access to the requirements of the engagement, and does not share one client’s confidential data, pricing, or supplier terms with another.
Both. Some clients need an independent diagnostic or executive counsel. Others need Alan to mobilize the work, establish governance, lead an initiative, provide fractional or interim capacity, or remain engaged through implementation and transition. The role is defined around the actual need.
Caravel works best with organizations facing an important strategy, transformation, supplier, integration, or execution challenge that requires experienced leadership and additional capacity. That can include Fortune 500 business units, life-sciences organizations, mid-market companies, private-equity-backed businesses, and mission-driven organizations.
